One more computer geek/chat term I can add to my meager arsenal.
Now "can of worms," that's one of my all-time favorite expressions. Also very appropriate.

I'd like to see it.
My favorite is "Dire Wolf".

If you follow the links to the specific releases you'll find that many of them features the instrumentation of each track.

"Jerry Garcia pedal steel" site:www.deaddisc.com
The search yields 47 pages, 1 for each album he played on.

VERY musical.. Its amazing how SO many steel players think Jerry couldn't play the steel well, yet some of the most highly talented singers and musicians of the day sought HIS sound out for thier albums, when their labels probably would have gotten them any steel player they wanted for the session... no Jerry was NOT a technician on the steel, but he WAS a musician on it.... bob||67.138.151.21||reg|| Z||000017||Bobby Lee||10-28-2005||10:30 AM||quasar@b0b.com||

If you have money, high will find you. Jerry had a soulful feeling in his playing. It's hard to teach that to a musician (or your Children!)||24.70.95.205||reg|| Z||000019||Rocco Labriola||10-28-2005||12:31 PM||roccolabriola@gmail.com||I found a bunch of live Jerry on the steel here at http://www.archive.org/audio/etree.php

If you search for 'Jerry pedal steel' you'll find several live cuts of varying quality. Most of are from '69 - '72. There are several versions of Dire Wolf with Bobby singing and, what I assume to be, a bunch of country classics that a young-er Yank like myself was unfamilar with.
There is also a couple of sets of the fat man with NRPS.
If you just search 'pedal steel' you'll get some Robert Randolph and the forums very own John Graboff with Ryan Adams.

Two very different scenes. Jerry was someone they could feel comfortable with.||208.201.236.21||reg||

There's no mention of the "world's greatest pedal steel guitarist" plaque.

Band by name of Grapefruit Ed played with a very good steel player- I did not get his name however- if anyone on forum knows it? Same band played there last year and had a piano/keyboard player in his place- they did a set HEAVY on Dylan covers which they handled quite well. Also the Little Wheels Band with a pedal steel player out of Austin TX (did not catch HIS name, either, but that was due to other noises around me at the time)-it was nice to see pedal steel players at the event in any case, & what was good about Little Wheels is, they had the guts to play their OWN tunes, not just to try out covers...
BTW this is a GEM of a place to place music...||69.233.178.189||reg||

I once talked to Jerry about pedal steel guitars. He didn't think he was that hot either. ;-)||4.225.211.1||reg||

A sign of a "name" musician with some class - not hyping his own talents.
Some pretty good lists have been presented - I'll have to dig some of those up myself. While I agree Garcia wasn't the world's greatest steel player, he had a recognizable style and a unique "snap" to his playing that makes for fun listening.
If we all only listened to the 10 greatest steel players on earth it'd get pretty boring eventually. And nobody would agree about that list either....||69.231.61.195||reg||
