A friend recently acquired a seven string lap steel. The peghead reads: AudioVox (one word or two; that isn't clear), Seattle Washington.

The pickup is a large U magnet under a brass plate.

The instrument appears to be of 1930's vintage.

We are looking for any information which might be had about it. The single pot needs replaced; source?

Please reply to me via email: yankovic@rockisland.com

Thank you in advance... Yank

Audiovox lap steels were made by Paul Tutmarc, who also made the first commercial electric bass. There's a link on this very site to Bud Tutmarc's story about Paul Tutmarc.

I've never seen one of these guitars, but I would assume that if Mr. Tutmarc used a standard potentiometer, you could buy a replacement at any good electronics store.
