Hello all,
I Have recently started production of custom lap steels looking at targeting the intro players and pro players with a simple, good sounding, and affordable design...
I see alot of talk here on the forum of the need for a good reasonably priced lap steel.. After seeing that most new one's sell in the 500-1000 range, I designed my "planks" to fall into the 225-500 range depending on pickup choice/cost.

I would love some feedback on what you guys want in a intro steel guitar...

Also if there any players near me up here in Canada that would be willing to review a 6, 8, or 10 string demo please let me know....(Anyone who finds me thru this site please let me know so I can forward any appropriate donations to bob.)
The text of my new sales brochure.

Our simple design is intended to allow the production of a pro-quality playable instrument at an affordable entry level price. The simplicity of design results in a very good sounding instrument as the resonance of quarter-sewn ash allows great tone while still being light enough to play on your lap. Console Models, Legs, Volume and Tone Controls, Custom Finishes, Woods and Multiple pickups are available at additional costs. Standard fretboard available in Black/Silver or Ivory/Black. Optional “Glow in the Dark” fretboard available at no extra cost...

It doesn't look like they'd fit, Andre.

Hey I can make one with ANY pickup, and I'm pretty sure I could make one work with a horseshoe pickup. What are they worth?
I just found lollars website and will add him as an custom option soon.

There's wider wood available and lot's of room for most pickups as I can make nuts and bridges with 3/4 or 1 inch of string height.
I install the pickups onto threaded inserts, and with additional inserts, pickup placement can be adjusted. I prefer using the 1 inch high bridge and nut, then I can place the pickup under the strings and find a sweet spot before mounting it. Personally I think George L's are the coolest pickup as most have no string spacing limitations, and the main benefit of my bridge and nut is I can make Any combination of string spacing and strings...

My guess is that $225-500 was a ridiculously low amount to ever think you could make lap steels for. He hasn't posted for over a year.

A google on "curtis scarrow" yields the following current page. However his website of www.1962cadillac.com still comes up empty.
Seems rather odd.

Maybe he realised that building a nice guitar isn't exactly cheap, even if a CNC woodworking rig is used.
