Thanks for your reply Mike. Howard you have already been very kind in other posts re;Medicaare Jam, but I still apreciate you. I think I'm ready to take some orders if anyone wants One. My plan is to make each one unique. In other words, Custom made. We are hoping to get a spot to show everybody what they sound like in Dallas in march. Will have #'s 1 & 2 there to see if plans hold up. Thanks again & hope to see you in Big D in march. Andy H.

It's no secret how I feel about unique steels. Anyone who thinks outside of the "gitbox" is ok in my book.

Andy, please tell us about the scale length, pick up, string spacing.....

Is it semi hollow & how is the sound?

About a month ago I sent some pictures of #1 to Ernest Cawby, who was going to display them on his website; don't know what happened, but they never showed up. Ernest may have had some unforeseen difficulties. Anyway #1 is prettier than #2, because it is mine! I think Andy likes blondes! Mine is walnut (brunette). The solid metal overlay on the neck gives it a bright tone that cuts through without peeling the hide off the back of your neck. The body does have "sounding chambers" for a slightly acoustic tone. I would like to attribute the beautiful tone of these instruments to mine and Andy's collective genius, but the truth is that we just put our ideas together and got lucky the first time. Some things are just meant to be. HOWARD R., I could email you some pix of #1,if you like. The "Waco" model (like mine) comes with a 25" scale, which helps to give it those clear,bell-like harmonics. Shorter scale lengths are available to those who prefer them.

To add to Wayne's Description, the string spacing at Bridge is 11/32, same as Pedal Steel. Trying for the trend of pedal pickers going for Lap steel. Sting height is 1/2 in., Pickups so far are Emmons humbuckers, but that may have to change. Just happened to have these 2 laying around. Still haven't had Wayne play #2 so don't know how close the two is as tro tone. Thanks for your interest. Andy H

One more thing I should make crystal clear before letting this topic die out: "This instrument is much more than a chunk of wood that was sawed out in the shape of a violin."
I had made a few lap steels and console steels (all of which still sound great) before dreaming up this little jewel! However, all of the steels I produced started with a solid piece of wood (but some were later hollowed out just a bit). Andy, on the other hand, had more experience and expertise in making semi-hollow and hollow body instruments. I guess it was only natural that the "Steel GitFiddle" evolved as it did.

Thanks Wayne: Actually this one started with two solid chunks of maple too, as you know. Then a lot of resawing, scroll sawing & metal sawing, fitting & screwing, plus sanding & finishing, there it was. Now if Somebody will Just buy a couple of them, I could get some more material to build some more. Have a happy New Year. Andy H.
