Hey dan, a great resource is
http://www.buildyourguitar.com/
its a site by a guy named Martin Koch. he shows how to build a simple lap steel on his web site. Also he has a book titled 'it's easy to build your own lap steel guitar' the book shows what the website does, plus a more advanced lap steel. great if your a beginner. it helped me a lot when building mine.

They sell a nice blueprint for an 8 stringer.

You will have a lot of fun and satisfaction when you build your own, and then before you are done with the first one you will have ideas for the next one. You will be drawn in to the work like a magnet and then you will really be Doomed!!!

You sure go that right Bill, I started building cheap simple 6 stringers for friends & selling them almost at cost. Wanted a nice 10 st. built it. Had to have an 8. Wayne came with a computer drawing of The Gitfiddle. Built 2 of them. Got a querry about a d-8 wide string spacing on a p/stl frame. Just finishing it. Wow! it won't stop. Got to sell some of them to buy more maple alluminum & pickups. Good luck Andy H.

Ditto what Andy and Bill said... I am hooked. I built my first lap steel as a fun little project several years ago. Now I just can't stop! Different woods, finishes, pickups-6 string, Eight string, 12 Strings. I have given one away, sold the rest, and I keep making them. I like keeping one in my van to play on when stopped at red lights, (or waiting while my wife is in some store shopping!)

Just do it! it is very relaxing and rewarding.
