How about this?
http://www.thomann.de/thoiw4_artikel-193059.html

- I don't have any experience with that model myself, but ABM used to make pedal steels that are widely used in Europe, so they should be able to make a good lap steel.

Or why don't you build one yourself - it is not that difficult...

What price range? There are many good 8-strings being made in the $1000 - 1500 range, check out GeorgeBoards, Lap King, Remington, MSA Superslide, Harmos (and several others that I can't think of right now..). They all ship internationally so that shouldn't be a problem.

I am just finishing up building one for myself. It is really not that hard. I ordered a pickup from Jerry Wallace and the rest of the parts I sourced locally. The hardest part was cutting and forming a bridge and nut out of stainless steel. Its been about a decade since I made anything with steel so it took som remembering.

I should have some pics up soon. It might not be the most aesthetically appealing guitars but is sure does sound sweet.

I agree with Matthew. You could use an "aluminum angle" (used in home construction) in lieu of steel and you'll still get reasonable tone and sustain, too.

Or, you could use something like a Trem-Nut bridge by Graphtec, and shape it (it's easily shaped with a file) appropriately. The nut could be made from a bone bridge blank, too, if you don't absolutely need "steel/metal" for the nut/bridge.

If you don't mind "overkill" for the job, Hiphot makes an 8-string hardtail bridge that would also serve the purpose, leaving only the nut to worry about.

My friend, BRUCE MURRAY in New Plymouth, NZ has a mint CANOPUS 8 string blonde which he'd like to sell as he just obtained a new D-8 CANOPUS. Selling reasonably considering the $$$$ rate difference between US (Canada) and NZ.

Hej Steinar,

If you decide to build an 8-string lapsteel, I may have a suitable fretboard for you. I think it's from an early 50's Fender Deluxe with a 22.5" scale length.

Jan,

I am interested in buying your fret board as I wish to build an 8-string lap steel after seeing Junior Brown last week. I've only been playing the 6-string for a few months (in G tuning) but wish to branch out to 8 string and other tunings. Would you be open to selling and shipping it to the US?

thanks Mark

All times are Pacific (US)
