I just bought a new PSG, so; can I have permission to play again? The Super Jams are the only chances I ever get to play away from the house! I promise to hold back on my best material, if you let me play¡

Russ and Randy have many, many, many, friends, amongst whom I consider my self one of the masses.
BUT, let's not forget that cute li'l blonde that hangs out with Russ a lot, and sings like an angel,(I think her name is Laney, or something like that). I hope they know, I love all three of 'em.
Also, I have some ties with Randy's family, as I went through school,(Elem. thru H.S. graduation with his uncle Richard Ganders, who, by the way is one knocked out Guitar picker)!
Dont look like I'll be able to make the show this year, so ya'll have a good time, and tell Smiley "hey" for me.
Love you guys,

I just returned home from this jam. The whole day (except for the driving) was completely care-free and 100% enjoyable.

(I don't play steel so I know I don't really have any business being a member of this forum, and I really am making it a point, in the future, to post here alot less often). But even as a non-steelplayer, I do still love steel guitar music. That's why I attended this jam, and I guess that's why I'm telling y'all my opinion of it.

The best part was the people. Everyone was very friendly. (Don Helms is as nice a man as they come). I also met some guys from New York State. One was (John?) Turk, who I spoke with for quite a while. Another guy (not sure where he's from) was named Milton (didn't get his last name). [Both guys exceedingly friendly].

I finally got to meet Bobbe in person, and he's even greater in person than over telephone and the web. (I talked to him several times throughout the day, and he definitely seemed to be the most easy-going, super-friendly, extremely well-receiving/positive-reacting/well-taken-to-anything-that-may-have-occurred kind of guy he possibly could have been). He, along with several other of the fascinatingly-talented players, were very overly-nice guys. (Thanks, guys). FYI, I also got Mr. Emmons' autograph, but I was too nervous to say anything but "could you sign this?" and "Thanks a whole bunch."

NOW then. Onto the music. Bobbe and Reece did a perfect job demonstrating the superslides. Could NOT have been better even though Tommy and Doug weren't there as were advertised. (At least not that I saw; But I DID arrive late).

Second set of super jam. (First one to include any use of FPs/KLs). Mr. Hughey may not have known "Mercy, mercy, mercy" (that's OK, most the players didn't. Larry and Mike did great though, on eveything.) But Sir John did make it through "heart of a clown" okay.

Third set. Okay, where do Russ and Randy get the idea that they are fit to play in front of people? (It's Simply a disgrace to PSG!) These two players appeared as if they'd never heard each other play in their lives! No intuitive perception between them whatsoever! Which, of course, led to any foresight as to one anothers intentions being MINIMAL!! GOSH, GUYS! I don't know what you're into besides PSG, but don't quit your day jobs!

Cody, After reading your response I am puzzled. Where did you get the idea that Russ and Randy were not fit to play in front of people? These men do not play in a band together. I have never heard Russ play in a live setting but I have heard Randy. In fact at the Texas show Hal Rugg invited Paul Franklin,John Hughey and you guessed it, Randy Beavers to help him play his time slot. Evidently the big name steel players have a different opinion of Randy Beavers playing than you do. I have found Randy Beavers to be a very good player and a great guy to boot. Other than that it sounds like you had a great time at the SuperJam. I sure wish I could have been there to see the guys play.

I read you were not a steel guitar
player so I assume thats why you
gave Russ and Randy such a poor review.
Maybe you were just trying to be funny
and trying to "fit in". Let me assure
you that Russ and Randy don't need
to take a back seat to anyone. Their playing is superb. I hope you realize
what you have said about Russ and Randy
was in such bad taste. Just my opinion.

All I have to say is I want the CD of Randy and Russ when it comes out. That was the most precise set I ever heard played at any steel show anywhere. It's pretty obvious these guys did some serious rehearsing and it showed big time. These guys played their everliving a$$es off and enjoyed every minute of it. It put me in mind of Russ and Jimmy playing together but with some big bands tunes and an original or two. You wouldn't have to be a steel player to appreciate their set last night.

Having never played non-pedal, I was amazed at the sound that Bobby and Reece got from the instruments. I don't see how I could have had a more enjoyable day. And as always you get to meet new people.Seems like I meet some of the best people in the world at these jams. Thanks a bunch for the fine entertainment. J.W. Day

Rick, you guessed it. i WAS in fact "just trying to be funny and 'fit in'".

Yes, i DID say i'm not a player, but i ALSO said that I love steel music.

ANY steel fan who attended last night COULD NOT have possibly thought the two R's played poorly.

Russ is a brilliant player who I've heard and met before. Randy, on the other hand, I DID NOT know. But I do know that Mr. Beavers played some of the most impressive steel music I HAVE EVER HEARD yesterday. ESPECIALLY NON-PEDAL!!!!

(Oh, by the way, thanks Bob C.)

I apologize to everyone. I should have indicated more clearly that I was joking.

By the way, randy...I was the kid who came up to you last night in the merchandise room, and said I liked the bossanova-type tune that you and Reece played during the daytime SS show. It was great, as was everything else I heard. Once again, I apologize for any mis-understanding.

Cody, don't worry about it. I've seen/heard Randy and Russ play together, and they get all up in each others' heads. And they don't hardly ever look at each other!
Two better steel players, or people, would be hard to find. Sorry I missed the show.

No problem here Cody. I'm glad you enjoyed the show. I sure had a big time yesterday.

Many thanks to everyone who attended, and to those who have worked so hard to make these shows possible. It's also very humbling to look out in the audience and see who is there.

Also, a big Thank You to everyone who loaded my gear in, set it up, tore it down , and then reloaded it for me. My shoulder is doing great but the Dr. said 6 more weeks before I can put any stress on it. So your help was greatly appreciated. Maybe I can do this for you someday.

I had a great time and I've been to several shows over the past few years and that last set was flawless. I love the creativity of randy beavers playing. He's also as good a composer as anyone I've heard in the steel world. Thanks for a great time.

Randy,

Don't be giving a timeframe as to when you can start lifting things. If you work it just right, you'd be amazed at how long you can get free help. I worked it for almost a year after my by-pass.

Seriously, I hate I missed last night's show, I know it was a dandy. I had planned on being there, but this work thing keeps getting in the way of living.

See ya soon,
Jim

Thanks to NTSGA, thanks to one of the most remarkable steelers on the scene today, Randy Beavers, for letting me make music with him, and thanks to, imho, one of the biggest reasons for whats happening in the steel guitar world today, Buddy Emmons, for gracing us last night with his presence.

I just wanted to thank the NTSGA for the superjam Tues and that it was. Loved all the
pickers and singers.Great to see Don Helms and chat with him. He seems to be doing fine. I was knocked out with Bobbe and Reese. If I had a tenth of the steel knowledge and talent between them along
with the tone and taste I could die a happy man. Thanks guys for a great show. If you need me I'll be practicing my non pedal steel.

First, let me say thanks to the guys from Kentucky that were great to sit and chat with.

Thanks to Buddy Emmons, Don Helms, Russ Hicks and Smiley Roberts who were so gracious as this yahoo from 'bama (proudly wearing his Sho-Bud shirt) introduced himself to you all. (thanks Bert for taking me to Buddy and breaking the ice!)

Top notch playing, great fellowship, and what a BARGAIN for $10!!

Thanks NTSGA, ya'll put on a good show!
